MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's basketball team was defeated by the MSOE Raiders 88-76 on
Tuesday night in a Northern Athletics Conference game downtown at
the Kern Center.
Wisconsin Lutheran jumped out to a 5-0 lead to open the game,
but went scoreless for 5:31 midway through the first half. The
Warriors, who trailed by as many as 20 points in the half, went
into halftime trailing 46-29 as MSOE shot 58.1 percent in the
opening half.
The Raiders led by 18 points (52-34) at the 18:37 mark of the
second half, but the Warriors used a 12-0 run to cut their deficit
to six points with 13:14 left to play. MSOE extended its lead back
up to 13 points with 9:03 remaining before the Warriors stormed
back to tie the game at 71-71 at the 2:49 mark. The Raiders scored
the next six points and went 14-for-17 from the free-throw line the
rest of the way to send the Warriors home in defeat.
Junior forward Kyle Madson (Madison, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran)
tied a season-high with 23 points to lead all scorers. Seniors Kyle
Plath (Lake Geneva, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) and Sam Siemers
(Nicollet, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) added 15 and 11 points,
respectively.
Wisconsin Lutheran finished the game shooting 44.4 percent
(28-for-63), while MSOE shot 51.9 percent (28-for-54) from the
floor for the game. The Raiders went 26-for-29 from the charity
stripe in contest, compared to just 8-for-11 from the line for
WLC.
Austin Meier scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed 10
rebounds to lead five players in double figures for MSOE (12-3, 5-2
NAC), which improved to 9-0 this season at the Kern Center.
Wisconsin Lutheran (7-8, 3-4 NAC) begins a three-game homestand
on Thursday when it hosts Concordia University Chicago in a NAC
showdown at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Complex.
