MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's basketball team shot 58.6 percent from the floor in the
second half and had four players finish in double figures en route
to an 85-79 win over Concordia University Chicago on Thursday in a
Northern Athletics Conference game at the Recreation Complex.
Despite shooting just 33.3 percent in the first half, Wisconsin
Lutheran managed to carry a 32-29 lead into halftime after leads
were exchanged five times during the half. The Warriors led by no
more than five points in the opening half.
WLC extended its halftime advantage to as many as eight points
in the second half and held the lead until the 5:02 mark. The
Cougars took a 75-72 lead on a Ryan Young three-pointer with 4:28
left to play. Senior Danny Behm (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine
Lutheran) answered with a trey of his own on the Warriors' next
possession to tie the game at 75-75.
The Warriors took the lead for good on a Jeremy Burmeister
(Phoenix, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) steal and Sam Siemers (Nicollet,
Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) lay-up with 3:16 remaining.
Kyle Plath (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) and Sam
Siemers, who scored 15 and 13 points, respectively, in the second
half, each finished with a game-high 20 points to pace Wisconsin
Lutheran. Behm finished with 15 points, 13 of which came in the
second half. Burmeister chipped in with 10 points.
Wisconsin Lutheran shot 44.6 percent (29-for-65) from the floor
for the game, including 7-for-14 from three-point range in the
second half. Concordia Chicago finished the game shooting 42.6
percent (29-for-68).
The Cougars out-rebounded the Warriors 49-31, but committed 22
turnovers in the contest. WLC turned the ball over just 12 times in
the game.
Ryan Young scored 18 points to lead three players in double
figures for Concordia Chicago (5-9, 4-5 NAC), while Justin Hineman
and James Morgan each tallied double-doubles for CUC.
Wisconsin Lutheran (8-8, 4-4 NAC) hosts Maranatha Baptist Bible
College on Saturday at 3:15 p.m. in a NAC game at the Recreation
Complex. The game is part of a Winterfest doubleheader with the
women's team. The first game tips-off at 1 p.m.
