MILWAUKEE - Senior Kyle Plath (Lake Geneva,
Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) made six three-pointers and scored a
game-high 26 points to lead four players in double figures as
Wisconsin Lutheran College defeated Maranatha Baptist Bible College
91-68 Saturday in a Northern Athletics Conference game at the
Recreation Complex.
Wisconsin Lutheran used an 11-0 run to erase an early two-point
deficit to lead 13-4 at the 16:06 mark of the first half. The
Warriors led by as many as 20 points in the half before Maranatha
scored the final eight points entering halftime. The Warriors, who
shot 54.1 percent in the half, led 55-43 at the break.
After the Crusaders scored the first bucket to open the second
half, the Warriors went on a 10-0 run to lead by 22 points (67-45)
with 14:42 left to play. Maranatha got no closer than 12 points the
rest of the way as WLC extended its lead to a game-high 25 points
late in the game.
Junior Sam Siemers (Nicollet, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran)
finished with 19 points, while Kyle Madson (Madison, Wis./Lakeside
Lutheran) added 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for a
double-double. Senior forward Aaron Kassulke (Norfolk,
Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) chipped in with a career-high 10 points off
the bench.
WLC shot 45.8 percent (33-for-72) from the floor for the game,
compared to 46 percent (29-for-63) shooting for MBBC. The Warriors,
who made 11 three-pointers in the game, held a 30-9 margin in
points off turnovers.
George Tagli and Nathan Salscheider each scored 11 points to
lead Maranatha (3-10, 0-9 NAC).
Wisconsin Lutheran (9-8, 5-4 NAC) concludes its three-game
homestand on Wednesday when it hosts Aurora University at 7 p.m. at
the Recreation Complex.
