SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Senior Kyle Plath (Lake
Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) scored a game-high 24 points and
tied a school record by going 6-for-6 from three-point range in
leading Wisconsin Lutheran College to an 85-73 win over Lakeland on
Saturday at the Woltzen Gymnasium.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which never trailed in the game, led by a
first-half high 13 points (26-13) at the 8:37 mark of the opening
half. The Warriors maintained their lead by carrying a 40-27
advantage into the locker room at the break.
The Warriors led by a game-high 14 points (65-51) with 7:44 left
in the second half. The Muskies got as close as five points, 78-73,
with 1:19 left but WLC made five of its final six free throws to
notch its fourth straight win.
Plath, who scored 16 of his 24 points in the first half, went
6-for-6 from three-point range in the contest. Kyle Madson
(Madison, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) finished with 17 points, while
Jeremy Burmeister (Phoenix, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) added 14
points. Danny Behm (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) and Sam
Siemers (Nicollet, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) rounded out the
double digit scoring with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Behm and
Burmeister each finished with a team-high seven rebounds.
WLC shot 44.4 percent (28-for-63) from the floor for the game,
compared to 41.4 percent (29-for-70) for Lakeland.
The Warriors, who went an uncharacteristic 20-for-36 from the
free-throw line in the game, committed a season-low six turnovers
and held an 18-2 margin over the Muskies in points off
turnovers.
Jake Schwarz scored 20 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead
three players in double figures for Lakeland (10-9, 4-7 NAC).
Wisconsin Lutheran (11-8, 7-4 NAC) travels to Dominican in River
Forest, Ill., on Tuesday for a NAC showdown with the Stars at 7
p.m.
