MILWAUKEE - The WLC men's basketball team
dropped a 90-77 non-conference contest to the Cardinal Stritch
University Wolves on Thursday night across town at the CSU Field
House.
The Warriors hung with the Wolves throughout the entire first
half as both teams exchanged leads seven times. Stritch built a
seven-point lead (27-20) at the 10:29 mark before Wisconsin
Lutheran came to back to take a 36-33 lead on a three-pointer by
freshman Kaleb Buch (Manitowoc, Wis./Lutheran) with 3:31 left in
the first half. The Wolves, however, closed the half on an 8-0 run
to take a 41-36 lead into the halftime break. Stritch out-scored
WLC 10-2 in second-chance points in the half.
WLC kept its deficit within five points until the 10:26 mark of
the second half when CSU closed out a 9-0 run for a 66-54 lead. The
host Wolves extended their lead to a game-high 19 points with 7:28
left in the game before winning by 13 points.
Senior Kyle Madson (Madison, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) scored a
team-high 21 points to lead two others in double figures for the
Warriors. Fellow senior Sam Siemers (Nicollet, Minn./Minnesota
Valley Lutheran) poured in 18 points and finished with a team-best
seven rebounds, while Ben Ziesemer (New Ulm, Minn./Minnesota Valley
Lutheran) added 13 points.
The Warriors shot 45.5 percent (25-for-55) from the floor for
the game, which included 50.0 percent in the second half. Stritch
out-rebounded WLC 46-32, including a 19-5 advantage on the
offensive glass. Wisconsin Lutheran committed 12 turnovers,
compared to nine for the Wolves, but CSU owned an 18-5 advantage in
points off turnovers.
Brandon D'Amico scored a game-high 27 points to pace Cardinal
Stritch (6-2), which shot 47.2 percent (34-for-72) on the night.
Kody Braddix followed up with 22 points, while Trey Triplett, who
became CSU's all-time scoring leader in the game, added 15
points.
Wisconsin Lutheran (1-5, 1-0 NAC) returns to Northern Athletics
Conference action on Saturday when it hosts rival Concordia
University Wisconsin (5-3, 2-0 NAC) at 7 p.m. at the Recreation
Complex.
