MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin Lutheran saw its six-game
winning streak come to a close on Wednesday in an 84-82 loss to the
Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders in a Northern Athletics
Conference South Division battle at the Recreation Complex.
WLC jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead before MSOE answered with a
16-2 run to take a nine-point lead (16-7) at the 12:30 mark of the
first half. The Raiders, who shot 64.3 percent in the half, built a
game-high 17-point lead (41-24) with 3:22 left before carrying a
45-30 advantage into halftime. The Warriors shot just 20 percent
(2-for-10) from three-point range in the half.
The Raiders, who shot 46.4 percent in the second half, led by a
half-high 14 points (76-62) with 5:22 remaining in the game. WLC
used an 8-0 run to cut its deficit to six points, 76-70, at the
2:29 mark. The Warriors kept chipping away and hit a pair of
three-pointers in the final minute to trail by just one point
(83-82) with 0.8 seconds left on the clock. The hosts were forced
to foul and MSOE converted on one of two free throws. WLC was
unable to get a shot off as time expired.
Junior Kyle Madson (Madison, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) scored a
game-high 20 points to lead Wisconsin Lutheran. Senior guards Danny
Behm (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) and Kyle Plath (Lake
Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) finished with 17 and 16 points,
respectively. Sam Siemers (Nicollet, Minn./Minnesota Valley
Lutheran) added 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Plath
scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half.
The Warriors, who were out-rebounded 37-26 by the Raiders, shot
47.6 percent (30-for-63) from the floor for the game. MSOE finished
with a 55.4 percent (31-for-56) performance from the floor.
Jeremy Off recorded a double-double with 18 points and 12
rebounds to pace four players in double figures for MSOE (16-6, 9-5
NAC).
Wisconsin Lutheran (13-9, 9-5 NAC) hosts Benedictine (15-7, 10-4
NAC) on Saturday as part of a Valentine's Day doubleheader at 7:15
p.m. at the Recreation Complex. The Warriors, who trail the Eagles
by one game in the NAC South Division, defeated BU 82-73 on January
14 in the first meeting of the season between the two teams in
Lisle, Ill.
