RIVER FOREST, Ill. - Concordia University
Chicago shot 70 percent from the floor in the second half and went
on to hand Wisconsin Lutheran its third straight loss by a score of
103-98 on Tuesday in the Northern Athletics Conference
regular-season finale for both teams at the Geiseman Gymnasium.
Wisconsin Lutheran fell behind 5-0 early on and tied the game
twice before trailing by a game-high 13 points (33-20) with 10:03
left in the first half. The Warriors went on a 21-5 run to go in
front 41-38 at the 4:41 mark. WLC led by six points, 51-45, before
carrying a 53-50 lead into halftime.
Senior guard Kyle Plath (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran)
finished with 13 points in the first half. Danny Behm (Jackson,
Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) and Kyle Madson (Madison,
Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) each added 12 points for the Warriors, who
shot 60.7 percent from the floor in the half.
The Warriors led by six points, 68-62, with 15:07 left in the
second half. CUC answered with a 12-0 run to grab a 74-68 lead at
the 12:17 mark. The Cougars extended their lead to 10 points
(82-72) with 9:25 left in the game. WLC would get as close as two
points, 86-84, when Plath hit a pair of free throws with 6:06 left
to play to put him at 1,000 points for his three-year career at
WLC. The Cougars then scored five unanswered points to go up by
seven.
After shooting 52 percent from three-point range in the opening
half, the Warriors shot just 18 percent (3-for-16) from downtown in
the second half.
Plath and Madson each poured in a team-high 21 points to pace
WLC. Behm finished with 16 points, while Sam Siemers (Nicollet,
Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) added 13. Jeremy Burmeister
(Phoenix, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) tallied 11 points.
Wisconsin Lutheran shot 51.9 percent (28-for-54) from the floor
in the game. Concordia Chicago, which won the battle on the glass
31-21, finished with an impressive 63.9 percent (39-for-61)
performance from the field.
Ryan Young poured in a career-high 35 points, including 21 in
the second half, to lead five players in double figures for
Concordia Chicago (9-14, 7-9 NAC). James Morgan added 14 points and
10 rebounds for a double-double.
Wisconsin Lutheran (13-11, 9-7 NAC) travels to Fond du Lac,
Wis., on Saturday for its NAC Challenge game against Marian
University. Game time is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. at the Sadoff
Gymnasium. The Warriors defeated the Sabres 84-71 in their only
meeting of the season on February 7 at the Recreation Complex.
