OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's track & field team placed fifth out of eight teams on
Saturday at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational at the Kolf Sports
Center.
Wisconsin Lutheran brought home first-place finishes in the 5000
meters and 1600-meter relay. Senior Zach Shiels (Johnson Creek,
Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) won the 5000 in a school-record time of
15:14.36, while WLC's 1600-meter relay team placed first out of
five teams with a time of 3:44.42.
The Warriors' 800-meter relay was just shy of a school record,
placing second with a time of 1:37.93. Freshman Tate Plath (Eagan,
Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) and junior Tyler Schroeder (Sparta,
Wis./Bangor) placed fifth (2:06.84) and eighth (2:10.01),
respectively, in the 800 meters for Wisconsin Lutheran.
Junior Ryan Timm (New Ulm, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran)
picked up two points by placing seventh in the 55-meter dash with
a time of 6.91.
Senior Rick LaFleur (Random Lake, Wis./Random Lake) finished
seventh in the shot put with a mark of 12.76 meters. Sophomore
Andrew Loescher (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) placed
eighth in the 35-pound weight throw with a school-record toss of
14.31 meters to round out the scoring for the Warriors.
WLC compiled 28 points for fifth place in the team standings.
The Warriors finished in front of UW-Parkside (16), Rockford
College (15) and Lakeland College (1). Invite host UW-Oshkosh
captured the team title with 302 points.
Wisconsin Lutheran will be back in action next Saturday when it
competes in the Northern Athletics Conference Indoor Championship
at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.
