Men's Basketball drops fourth straight game, 90-78

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Wisconsin Lutheran College was out-scored 27-7 in second chance points and was defeated by the Marian University Sabres 90-78 on Saturday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Conference Challenge game at the Sadoff Gymnasium.

Wisconsin Lutheran, which suffered its fourth straight loss, jumped out to an early 5-1 lead before Marian rattled off 10 straight points to take a six-point lead, 11-5, at the 14:09 mark of the first half. The Sabres extended their lead to 13 points with 53 seconds to play in the half. The Warriors trailed 43-31 at the break. Marian owned a 21-2 advantage in second chance points and a 17-5 margin in points off turnovers in the opening half.

Despite shooting 61.5 percent from the floor in the second half, the Warriors got no closer than seven points. The Sabres, who shot 51.7 percent in the half, led by a game-high 16 points (76-60) with 7:27 left in the game. WLC got within nine points with just under five minutes left but could get no closer.

Senior Kyle Plath (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) led the Warriors with a game-high 27 points. Danny Behm (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) added 15 points, while Kyle Madson (Madison, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) chipped in with 11.

WLC was out-rebounded 44-20 by the Sabres and finished the game shooting 52 percent (26-for-50). Marian, which won its fourth straight game, shot 47 percent (31-for-66) from the floor for the game. The game marked the second lowest rebounding output of the season by WLC.

Kevin Hudak scored a team-high 21 points to pace five players in double figures for Marian (10-15), which will be the eighth seed in the NAC Tournament. Logan Rankin added a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Wisconsin Lutheran (13-12, 9-7 NAC) travels to Edgewood College in Madison, Wis., on Wednesday for a NAC Tournament quarterfinal game against the second-seeded Eagles at 7 p.m. The Warriors fell to Edgewood 88-84 in their lone meeting of the season back on January 10 at the Recreation Complex.
