Behm's triple-double fuels Warriors to upset win over Eagles

MADISON, Wis. - Senior Danny Behm (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) recorded a triple-double to lead seventh-seeded Wisconsin Lutheran College over second-seeded Edgewood College 87-74 on Wednesday in a Northern Athletics Conference quarterfinal game at the Todd Wehr Edgedome.

Wisconsin Lutheran (14-12) advances to play at third-seeded Rockford (17-9) on Friday at 7 p.m. The Warriors defeated the Regents, who have won six straight games, 94-89 in their only meeting of the season on December 13 at RC. Rockford toppled Concordia University Wisconsin 68-55 in its quarterfinal game on Wednesday.

Edgewood started the game out in front and led by as many as eight points, 27-19, with 8:58 left in the first half. The Eagles held a lead until 3:14 remaining in the half before the Warriors closed the half on a 12-3 run. WLC led 43-35 at halftime. Wisconsin Lutheran turned the ball over only one time in the first half, leading to a 12-2 advantage in points off turnovers.

The Warriors began the second half on a 9-0 run to lead by a game-high 17 points (52-35) with 16:11 remaining in the game. The Eagles, who were held scoreless for the first 4:15 of the half, cut their deficit down to nine points, 59-50, at the 11:39 mark. WLC never saw its lead dip below nine points from that point on, building its lead back up to 17 points with 5:44 left to play.

Behm finished the game with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Kyle Plath (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) and Sam Siemers (Nicollet, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) added 18 and 13 points, respectively, to round out the double-digit scorers for the Warriors.

WLC, which held a 26-5 advantage in points off turnovers, shot 43.1 percent (31-for-72) for the game. Edgewood, which turned the ball over 25 times opposed to only seven by the Warriors, finished the game shooting 39.7 percent (23-for-58).

The Eagles (13-13), who had four players reach double figures, were led by Jeff Barczak's double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.
