RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Warriors shot 55
percent from the floor and had four players reach double figures in
a 97-90 win over Dominican University Tuesday in a Northern
Athletics Conference game at the Igini Sports Forum.
Wisconsin Lutheran held its only lead of the first half at 7-5
just 2:30 into the game. The Warriors found themselves trailing by
a game-high 12 points (40-28) with 3:49 left in the half. WLC ended
the half on a 14-5 run, capped off by one of Kyle Plath's (Lake
Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) career-high eight three-pointers
as the first half buzzer sounded. The Warriors trailed by just
three points, 45-42, at halftime.
WLC took the lead for good, 57-54, at the 15:23 mark of the
second half when senior Danny Behm (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine
Lutheran) knocked down a three-pointer. The Warriors extended their
lead to a game-high 17 points (79-62) with 9:25 remaining in the
contest. Dominican responded with a 10-0 run to cut the lead down
to seven points, 79-72, with 6:25 to play. The Stars were able to
get within four points the rest of the way, but the Warriors
converted on their final six free throws within the final
minute.
Wisconsin Lutheran shot 60 percent (9-for-15) from three-point
range in the second half and turned the ball over only two
times.
Plath led all scorers with 25 points, including 15 in the second
half. Juniors Sam Siemers (Nicollet, Minn./Minnesota Valley
Lutheran) and Ben Ziesemer (New Ulm, Minn./Minnesota Valley
Lutheran) each added 20 points. Ziesemer, who shot 6-of-9 from the
floor, scored 16 of his career-high 20 points in the second half.
Behm rounded out the double-figure scoring with 16 points. Siemers
finished tied for a game-high with nine rebounds.
The Warriors, who won their fifth straight game, tied a season
low with only six turnovers for the second consecutive game.
Dan Borys scored 22 points, including 16 in the first half, to
pace four players in double figures for DU (8-12, 4-8 NAC). The
Stars, who owned a 17-5 advantage in second-chance points, finished
the game shooting 53.3 percent (32-for-60) from the floor.
Wisconsin Lutheran (12-8, 8-4 NAC) hosts Marian University
Saturday at 7:15 p.m. at the Recreation Complex. The game is part
of a doubleheader with the women's team, which tips off its game
against the Sabres at 5 p.m.
