ORLANDO, Fla. - Wisconsin Lutheran College was
able to hold off Newbury College 15-12 in a high-scoring second
game of a doubleheader at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational
at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.
Junior Shawn Glasel (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) had the
hot bat for the Warriors, going 4-for-5 and recording an RBI.
Junior Kyle Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther Preparatory) and
sophomore Matt Lang (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) led the Warriors in
RBIs with four and three, respectively. As a team, the Warriors had
15 hits and 13 RBIs.
WLC jumped out to a quick start in the first inning, scoring
four runs on three hits with Edlhuber and Eric Burrow (Lake Mills,
Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) both tallying two RBIs. Newbury had two
three-run innings to counter the Warriors quick start and held on
to a 6-5 lead after the opening two innings.
Cody Schmidt (Union City, Okla./Union City) and Ryan Pollesch
(Markesan, Wis./Markesan) each had an RBI and Glasel scored on an
error to give the Warriors three runs in the third inning and an
8-6 lead, which they would never surrender.
John Lynch (Rosendale, Wis./Laconia), Brandon Hutsen
(Oconomowoc, Wis./Lake Country Lutheran), Jake Thorsteins (Round
Lake, Beach, Ill./Shoreland Lutheran) and Tyler Geidel (Jackson,
Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) all saw action on the mound for the
Warriors, with Hutsen getting the win. He went three innings for
Wisconsin Lutheran, giving up one earned run, one hit, one walk and
one strikeout.
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-2) will face Emerson College on Thursday
at 9 a.m. in its third doubleheader at the RussMatt Central Florida
Invitational.
