ORLANDO, Fla. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
baseball team concluded its spring break trip by dropping a 12-1
decision to the Coe College Kohawks on Friday in its final game of
the 2009 RussMatt Central Florida Invitational held at Disney's
Wide World of Sports Complex.
Each team played two scoreless innings of baseball before Coe
scored five runs on six hits in the top of the third inning. After
adding one run in fourth, the Kohawks plated six more runs in the
fifth. Coe finished the game with 15 hits, opposed to four hits for
Wisconsin Lutheran.
The Warriors scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of
the sixth when Joe Picone (Lindenhurst, Ill./Shoreland Lutheran)
scored on an fielder's choice off the bat of David Frelich
(Maribel, Wis./Denmark).
Kyle Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther Preparatory) went 2-for-2
to lead WLC at the plate. Sophomore Austin Backhaus (Campbellsport,
Wis./Campbellsport) was charged with the loss after pitching three
innings and allowing five earned runs.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-5) travels to Chicago, Ill., on Tuesday
for a non-conference contest against the North Park University
Vikings. First pitch of the single game is slated for 4 p.m.
