Johnson finishes 10th in triple jump at Indoor Championships

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Wisconsin Lutheran College junior Dominique Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Vincent) finished 10th out of 14 competitors in the triple jump on Saturday at the 2009 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Sports and Recreation Center on the campus of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

Johnson, who is the first student-athlete in WLC track & field history to qualify for a national championship, was seeded 11th in the event heading into the championship. He placed 10th in a field of 14 competitors with a jump of 14.02 meters, just .10 meters shy of qualifying for the ninth and final spot of the final round.

Alex Samma of Connecticut College won the event with a jump of 15.07 meters. UW-Oshkosh and UW-La Crosse each recorded 32 points to share honors as men's team champions.

Johnson and the Warriors will begin their outdoor season on Saturday, March 28 by hosting their own invitational on Raabe Stadium.
