CHICAGO - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
baseball team was defeated by the North Park University Vikings by
a score of 19-4 on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game at
the Holmgren Complex.
The host Vikings capitalized on an error by Wisconsin Lutheran
in the first inning and jumped out to a 1-0 lead. The Warriors tied
the game at 1-1 in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly by
sophomore Matt Lang (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) that scored Kyle
Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther Preparatory), who led off the
inning with a triple.
North Park responded by scoring five runs in the bottom of the
third to take a lead that it would never relinquish. The Vikings
added two runs in the third and three more in the fourth before
being held scoreless in the fifth. Trailing 12-1 entering the
seventh inning, Cody Schmidt (Union City, Okla./Union City) drove
in Jake Thorsteins (Round Lake Beach, Ill./Shoreland Lutheran) on
an RBI single to make it 12-2.
The Vikings erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the seventh
before WLC scored its final two runs of the game in the eighth.
Edlhuber, who went 3-for-4 in the contest, blasted a two-run home
run that plated Josh Lemke (Brillion, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran).
Austin Backhaus (Campbellsport, Wis./Campbellsport) pitched two
innings and gave up eight runs to take the loss for the
Warriors.
Zach Deutscher went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBIs
to lead North Park (7-3) at the plate.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-6) hosts Beloit College next Wednesday,
March 25 in its home opener at Neumann Family Field. First pitch of
the non-conference doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
