MILWAUKEE - The WLC baseball team was defeated
by the Beloit College Buccaneers 24-5 in seven innings in game one
of a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at Neumann
Family Field.
Beloit jumped on top of Wisconsin Lutheran early, scoring six
runs in the top half of the first inning on six hits. The Warriors
cut their deficit in half in the bottom of the second by plating
three runs to make the score 6-3. Justin Barkhurst (Crete,
Ill./Illinois Lutheran), AJ Paczocha (Cudahy, Wis./Union Grove
Christian) and Ryan Pollesch (Markesan, Wis./Markesan) each drove
in runs in the inning for WLC.
The Buccaneers responded by scoring at least two runs in each of
the final five innings, including a five spot in the fourth. WLC
scored its final two runs of the game in the sixth and seventh
inning. The contest ended after seven complete due to run rule.
Pollesch and Brad Marshall (Cudahy, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran)
each had two hits apiece to lead Wisconsin Lutheran offensively.
Junior John Lynch (Rosendale, Wis./Laconia) took the loss after
going 3.2 innings on the hill for the Warriors.
Mike Ross went 3-for-3 with five RBIs to lead Beloit (11-2) at
the plate. The Bucs, who hit three home runs in the game, pounded
out 20 hits, compared to 11 hits for the Warriors.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-7) faces Beloit in game two of its
doubleheader on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Neumann Family Field.
