MILWAUKEE - The WLC baseball team was defeated
by the Lakeland College Muskies 3-2 Friday afternoon in game one of
its conference-opening doubleheader at Neumann Family Field.
Lakeland scored the game's first run in the top of the second
inning on an RBI single by Mike Huber. Wisconsin Lutheran responded
with a run of its own in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI
groundout off the bat of senior AJ Paczocha (Cudahy, Wis./Union
Grove Christian).
After a scoreless third inning, the Muskies plated a pair of
runs in the fourth by stringing together four hits. The game
remained 3-1 in favor of Lakeland until the bottom of the ninth
inning. The Warriors began the ninth by putting their first three
runners on base. Junior Kyle Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther
Preparatory) followed with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to
3-2. The next two batters grounded out and WLC left runners at the
corners when the game came to a close.
Sophomore Josh Ferrell (Cocoa, Fla./Temple Christian) went
2-for-4 and scored a run to lead Wisconsin Lutheran at the plate.
Senior Josh Lemke (Brillion, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) pitched all
nine innings, allowing only three earned runs, walking none and
striking out five.
Mike Huber led the Muskies (4-9, 1-0 NAC) bats by going 3-for-4
with an RBI.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-9, 0-1 NAC) hosts Lakeland in the second
game of its doubleheader on Friday at 4 p.m.
