Late rally not enough as WLC falls to Lakeland

Box Score Box score

MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin Lutheran College was topped by Lakeland 15-11 in the second game of a NAC doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Neumann Family Field.

Lakeland accounted for 12 of its 15 runs in the first three innings of the game. The Muskies began the game by scoring five runs in the first inning, three in the second and added four more in the fourth for a 12-1 lead.

Wisconsin Lutheran scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning to make it a 12-3 deficit. Trailing 14-3 and in danger of having the game end via run rule, the Warriors put five runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh to cut the Muskies' lead to 14-8.

After the Muskies scored their final run of the game in the eighth, WLC rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth but left two runners on base when the game ended.

Eric Burrow (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran), Justin Barkhurst (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran) and Jared Huntemann (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) each had two hits apiece for the Warriors.

Jacob Heinemeyer went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and one RBI to pace the Muskies (5-9, 2-0 NAC), who had 19 hits in the game.

WLC (3-10, 0-2) is scheduled to travel to Madison on Sunday for a NAC doubleheader against the Edgewood College Eagles beginning at 12 p.m.
