MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's track & field team placed third out of seven teams at the
Warrior Invitational on a cold and windy Saturday afternoon at
Raabe Stadium.
Junior Dominique Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Vincent) broke his own
school record and placed first in the triple jump with a leap of
14.11 meters, surpassing the mark of 13.98 meters that he set last
weekend. Johnson also placed fourth of 10 in the 200-meter dash
with a time of 24.01.
Senior Zach Shiels (Johnson Creek, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) raced
to a first-place finish in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:16.62
to beat out nine other competitors in the event. Shiels also placed
second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:08.97.
WLC's 1600-meter relay team also placed second of four with a
time of 3:58.38.
In the throwing events, sophomore Andrew Loescher (Jackson,
Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) placed third of 13 in the javelin
with a toss of 46.13 meters. Teammates Blaine Welch (Bonduel,
Wis./Bonduel) and Ryan Timm (New Ulm, Minn./Minnesota Valley
Lutheran) also took fifth and seventh in the event, respectively.
Loescher also placed sixth of 12 in the shot put with a mark of
13.18 meters.
Senior Rick LaFleur (Random Lake, Wis./Random Lake) placed fifth
in both the discus and hammer throw with tosses of 36.05 meters and
44.97 meters, respectively.
The Warriors finished with 94 points in the final team standings
for third place. Harper College won the team title with 222
points.
Wisconsin Lutheran travels to St. Louis, Mo., next weekend to
compete in the Washington University Invitational.
