ORLANDO, Fla. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
baseball team was edged by the Bethany Lutheran College Vikings 3-2
on Monday in its first game of the RussMatt Central Florida
Invitational at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.
Bethany Lutheran jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after platting
a run in the bottom of the first inning. The Vikings added another
run in the fourth for a 2-0 lead. Wisconsin Lutheran came back to
tie the game at 2-2 in the fifth on RBI singles by sophomores Matt
Lang (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) and Josh Ferrell (Cocoa,
Fla./Temple Christian).
The game remained tied 2-2 until the bottom of the seventh when
Bethany Lutheran strung together two hits and scored the
game-winning run. The contest ended with one out and a pair of
Vikings left on base.
Junior Ben Hermanson (Antioch, Ill./Shoreland Lutheran) pitched
all 6 1/3 innings for WLC, allowing eight hits and striking out
four. The Warriors, who played errorless baseball, had five
different players each tally one hit in the contest.
Wisconsin Lutheran (0-1) plays its second game of a doubleheader
against Bethany Lutheran at 3 p.m. on Monday.
