VERONA, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran baseball
team was defeated by the Edgewood College Eagles 12-2 in seven
innings on Wednesday in the first game of a Northern Athletics
Conference doubleheader at Stampfl Field.
After playing scoreless baseball for the first two innings,
Wisconsin Lutheran struck first by scoring a run in the top of the
third when junior Kyle Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther
Preparatory) drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home senior Josh
Lemke (Brillion, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran).
Unfortunately the Warriors were unable to hold their lead for
long as Edgewood responded by plating four runs in the bottom of
the third on just two hits.
The Warriors scored their second and final run of the game in
the fourth on a Lemke fielder's choice RBI groundout that scored
senior Eric Burrow (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran). WLC had a
chance to add to its run total, but grounded into an inning-ending
double play with the bases loaded.
The Eagles followed with a single run in the bottom of the
fourth, three more in the sixth and ended the game via run rule in
the seventh by adding four runs.
Senior Cody Schmidt (Union City, Okla./Union City) went 5.2
innings on the mound and was charged with the loss. Schmidt allowed
nine hits, seven earned runs and struck out a pair. Senior AJ
Paczocha (Cudahy, Wis./Union Grove Christian) led the Warriors at
the plate by going 2-for-4.
Justin Dahmen went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored
to lead the Eagles (10-4, 1-0 NAC) offensively.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-11, 0-3 NAC) faces Edgewood in the second
game of a doubleheader today at 5 p.m. at Stampfl Field.
