MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
baseball team completed its doubleheader sweep of Maranatha Baptist
with an 18-1 victory over the Crusaders on Saturday in the second
game of a NAC twinbill at Neumann Family Field.
The Warriors scored three runs in the first on RBIs by
junior Kyle Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther Preparatory), senior
Eric Burrow (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) and junior Jake
Thorsteins (Round Lake Beach, Ill./Shoreland Lutheran).
Wisconsin Lutheran returned in the second by scoring six runs to
take a 9-0 lead. A two-run triple by center fielder Ryan Pollesch
(Markesan, Wis./Markesan) and a two-run double by Thorsteins
highlighted the inning.
WLC plated one run in the third before being held scoreless for
the next two frames. Maranatha scored its lone run of the day in
the fifth.
The Warriors exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth
to put an end to the game after the next half inning. Burrow's
two-run single and Matt Lang's (East Troy, Wis./East Troy)
three-RBI triple highlighted the eight-run sixth.
Six different Warriors recorded at least two hits in the game,
while four had three RBIs each. WLC finished with 13 hits in the
contest.
Sophomore Austin Backhaus (Campbellsport, Wis./Campbellsport)
threw all seven innings, giving up just one run on five hits. He
struck out three and did not walk a batter.
Wisconsin Lutheran (5-18, 2-8 NAC) returns to action on
Wednesday, April 15 with a non-conference game against the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers, a NCAA Division I
member of the Horizon League. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. at
Henry Aaron Field.
