MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
baseball team bounced back from its close loss to MSOE in the first
game of its Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader to earn a
14-4 game two victory in seven innings on Saturday afternoon at
Henry Aaron Field.
The Warriors jumped out of the gates quickly in the first inning
to score five runs. Junior Kyle Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther
Preparatory) had a two-RBI double to lead WLC. Seniors Eric Burrow
(Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) and AJ Paczocha (Cudahy,
Wis./Union Grove Christian) also added RBIs for the Warriors in the
frame.
Wisconsin Lutheran matched its first inning performance by
scoring five more runs in the second inning. The Raiders played
sub-par defense throughout the inning, committing three errors.
Burrow brought a pair of runners across the plate in the inning.
Josh Ferrell (Cocoa, Fla./Temple Christian) and Shawn Glasel
(Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) each had an RBI.
The offense still wasn't done for the Warriors in the third and
fourth innings. WLC scored one run in the third on an Edlhuber RBI
single. In the top of the fourth, the Warriors scored two more runs
with Ferrell and Justin Barkhurst (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran)
both bringing runners home.
WLC added its last run of the game on a Barkhurst RBI in the
sixth. The Raiders scored all of their runs in the last half of the
seventh, but it wasn't enough to prevent the run-rule.
Barkhurst and Edlhuber each went 3-for-5 to lead WLC at the
plate in the contest. Sophomore Austin Backhaus (Campbellsport,
Wis./Campbellsport) pitched 6.1 innings for the Warriors, notching
the win to bring his record to 2-4.
Wisconsin Lutheran (6-20, 3-9 NAC) will host the Dominican
University Stars at Neumann Family Field on Sunday in a NAC
doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
