LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College baseball team was defeated by the defending Northern
Athletics Conference Tournament champion Rockford College Regents
22-6 on Monday in the first game of a doubleheader at Road Ranger
Stadium.
The Regents got off to a hot start in the top of the first by
scoring seven runs on five hits off of senior starting pitcher Josh
Lemke (Brillion, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran). The Warriors had a
chance to get out of the inning without any damage being done, but
a throwing error allowed the inning to continue.
Rockford continued its hit parade by plating two runs in the
second and three more in the third inning for a 12-0 lead.
Sophomore Josh Ferrell (Cocoa, Fla./Temple Christian) belted a
two-run home run in the fourth to put the Warriors on the
scoreboard.
The Regents answered by plating six runs over the next two
frames to before WLC scored four runs in four hits in the bottom of
the sixth. AJ Paczocha (Cudahy, Wis./Union Grove Christian) and
Shawn Glasel (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) each recorded
RBIs in the inning. Glasel and Matt Lang (East Troy, Wis./East
Troy) later reached home on a fielding error to account for the
four runs in the frame. Rockford scored its final four runs of the
contest in the seventh and the game ended after seven complete due
to run rule.
Eight different Warriors each tallied a hit in the game. Ferrell
led the way with two RBIs.
Jimmy Dercks went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and one run scored to
lead the Regents (18-9, 10-3 NAC), who finished with 18 hits.
Wisconsin Lutheran (8-23, 5-12 NAC) faces Rockford in the second
game of the doubleheader on Monday at 7 p.m. at Road Ranger
Stadium.
