Rockford uses late surge to finish sweep of WLC

Box score

LOVES PARK, Ill. - Rockford College scored 12 of its 13 runs over the final three innings to break open a one-run game and shutout Wisconsin Lutheran 13-0 on Monday in the second game of a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader at Road Ranger Stadium.

WLC junior John Lynch (Rosendale, Wis./Laconia) opened the game by tossing three scoreless innings before Rockford scored its first run of the game in the fourth inning via a solo home run. After a scoreless fifth frame from both teams, the Regents capitalized on three errors to plate four runs on three hits in the sixth.

Rockford scored a single run in the seventh before adding seven more runs on six hits in the eighth. The game was called after the eighth due to run rule.

Sophomore Josh Ferrell (Cocoa, Fla./Temple Christian) and junior Kyle Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther Preparatory) were credited with the Warriors' two hits on the evening. Only seven of Rockford's 13 runs were earned in the game as WLC committed five errors.

Chris Brockman led the Regents (19-9, 11-3 NAC) at the plate by going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Adam Ketzner allowed only two hits and struck out 14 in eight innings of work to earn the win.

Wisconsin Lutheran (8-24, 5-13 NAC) hosts Lawrence University, a member of the Midwest Conference, in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Neumann Family Field.
