Box Score Box score

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Sophomore Ethan Geis (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) went 4-for-5 with seven RBIs and three runs scored to lead Wisconsin Lutheran College to a convincing 19-7 win over Carroll University in the first game of a non-conference baseball doubleheader on Wednesday at Waukesha West High School.

Wisconsin Lutheran wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, plating four runs on five hits in the top of the first inning. The host Pioneers came right back in the bottom of the frame to score three runs on three hits. Carroll had a chance to strike for more runs, but left the bases loaded when the inning ended.

The Warriors kept adding to their run total in the second by scoring five runs on four hits. Junior Ryan Pollesch (Markesan, Wis./Markesan) keyed the inning with a two-run single. All five runs in the inning were unearned as the Pioneers committed a pair of errors.

Geis extended WLC's lead to 13-3 in the third inning when he belted a one-out grand slam home run. The Warriors were held scoreless in the fourth and fifth, their only two scoreless innings of the game. WLC added three more runs in the sixth, highlighted by an Eric Burrow (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) two-RBI single. The Pioneers plated a trio of runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 16-6 in favor of the Warriors.

WLC scored its last three runs in the seventh on three straight RBIs by Josh Ferrell (Cocoa, Fla./Temple Christian), AJ Paczocha (Cudahy, Wis./Union Grove Christian) and Geis. Carroll added an unearned run in the last of the seventh for the final 19-7 margin.

Senior Jared Huntemann (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago), junior Kyle Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther Preparatory) and Ferrell each finished with three hits in the game. Ferrell also added three RBIs. Junior Ben Hermanson (Antioch, Ill./Shoreland Lutheran) allowed six runs on six hits in 5.2 innings to earn his first victory of the season.

Carroll had seven players each tally one hit in the game. Tyler Warner led the Pioneers (8-18) with two RBIs. Ryne Plager was charged with the loss after he allowed nine runs, four earned, on nine hits in two innings.

Wisconsin Lutheran (11-24) squares off against Carroll at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday in its final non-conference game of the season at Waukesha West High School.
