Miscues haunt Warriors in loss to Sabres

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The Warriors baseball team committed five errors and was defeated by the Marian University Sabres 11-1 on Saturday in the first game of a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader at Herr-Baker Field.

Marian struck early by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first off of four hits. After a scoreless second from both teams, the Sabres added two more runs in the third by capitalized on a pair of errors by WLC.

The Warriors allowed single runs in both the fourth and fifth inning before holding Marian scoreless in the sixth. Trailing 6-0 entering the top of the seventh, junior Ryan Pollesch (Markesan, Wis./Markesan) smacked an RBI double that scored Jake Thorsteins (Round Lake Beach, Ill./Shoreland Lutheran) for Wisconsin Lutheran's only run of the contest.

The Sabres, who were led by Anthony Porcaro's four hits, three runs and two RBIs, erupted for five runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game via run rule.

Junior Kyle Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther Preparatory) went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Warriors. Sophomore Austin Backhaus (Campbellsport, Wis./Campbellsport) pitched five innings and was handed the loss for WLC.

Wisconsin Lutheran (3-13, 0-5 NAC) faces Marian (6-5, 1-0 NAC) in the second game of the doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
