MILWAUKEE - WLC's baseball team could not hold
on to its late inning lead, falling to Concordia Wisconsin by a
final of 21-8 on Tuesday in the first game of a Northern Athletics
Conference doubleheader at Neumann Family Field.
CUW scored three first-inning runs to take an early lead over
Wisconsin Lutheran. WLC answered by plating a run in the bottom
half of the frame on an RBI single by Josh Ferrell (Cocoa,
Fla./Temple Christian) that scored Cody Schmidt (Union City,
Okla./Union City).
After a scoreless second, the Warriors knotted the game at 3-3
in the third when Jake Thorsteins (Round Lake Beach, Ill./Shoreland
Lutheran) and Ferrell reached home on a fielder's choice and
fielding error off the bat of Brad Marshall (Cudahy, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran). The Warriors grabbed a 4-3 lead in the fourth in a sac
fly from Jared Huntemann (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) that plated
Josh Lemke (Brillion, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran).
The Falcons tied the game back up at 4-4 in the top of the fifth
before Matt Lang (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) smacked a three-run
double in the bottom of the inning for a 7-4 WLC lead.
With WLC holding a 7-6 lead heading into the eighth inning, the
Falcons exploded for 15 runs over the final two innings. The
visitors from Mequon took advantage of six errors by the Warriors
over the final two frames.
Five different players tallied at least two hits in the game for
the Warriors, who finished with 11 hits in the contest.
Jonathan Olla went 6-for-7 with seven RBIs and three runs scored
to pace CUW (7-10, 3-2 NAC), which had 18 hits in the contest.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-15, 0-7 NAC) hosts Concordia University
Wisconsin in the second game of its doubleheader on Tuesday at 4
p.m.
