MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin Lutheran College was on
the short end of a 13-6 decision to the Concordia University
Wisconsin Falcons on Tuesday in the second game of a NAC baseball
doubleheader at Neumann Family Field.
Concordia Wisconsin jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the
first inning before Wisconsin Lutheran responded with a run of its
own in the bottom half. Sophomore Josh Ferrell's (Cocoa,
Fla./Temple Christian) RBI single scored senior Cody Schmidt (Union
City, Okla./Union City) to tie the game. It was the first of four
runs that Schmidt scored in game two.
The Falcons plated a pair of runs in the in the second and added
another in the third for a 4-1 lead. The Warriors scored a pair of
unearned runs in the bottom of the frame to cut the margin to 4-3.
CUW extended its lead by scoring two runs in each of the next three
innings to take a 10-4 lead into the seventh.
WLC tallied its final two runs of the game in the seventh on
RBIs by Ferrell and Jake Thorsteins (Round Lake Beach,
Ill./Shoreland Lutheran). The Falcons added their final three
runs of the game in the top of the eighth before holding the
Warriors scoreless in the bottom half. The game ended after eight
due to darkness.
Jared Huntemann (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) and Ferrell each
recorded two hits to lead the Warriors.
Jonathan Olla went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored for
the Falcons (8-10, 4-2 NAC), who pounded out 17 hits in the
contest.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-16, 0-8 NAC) hosts UW-Platteville on
Wednesday in a non-conference doubleheader Neumann Family Field.
First pitch between the Warriors and Pioneers is scheduled for 1
p.m.
