Platteville powers past Wisconsin Lutheran

MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team was defeated by the UW-Platteville Pioneers 24-1 on Wednesday in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader at Neumann Family Field.

UW-Platteville scored early and often in game one, plating four runs in the top of the first inning. Wisconsin Lutheran scored its lone run of the game in the bottom of the frame on an RBI sacrifice fly from sophomore Josh Ferrell (Cocoa, Fla./Temple Christian) that plated senior Cody Schmidt (Union City, Okla./Union City).

The Pioneers put together a nine-run second inning before being held scoreless in the third. The visitors out of the WIAC scored runs in the final four frames, including four runs each in the fourth and sixth inning.

Jared Huntemann (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) went 3-for-4 to lead the Warriors, who finished with five hits in the contest.

Brett Benesh finished the game by going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and five runs scored the lead the Pioneers.

Wisconsin Lutheran (3-17) hosts UW-Platteville in the second game of its doubleheader on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
