RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College men's track & field team finished fourth out of eight
teams at the 2009 Northern Athletics Conference Outdoor Track &
Field Championship hosted by Concordia University Chicago on
Saturday.
Senior co-captain Zach Shiels (Johnson Creek, Wis./Lakeside
Lutheran), who was named NAC Track Athlete of the Meet for the
second consecutive season, led the way for the Wisconsin Lutheran.
He placed first in the 10,000-meter run (32:40.2), second in the
5,000-meter run (15:34.59) and third in the 1500-meter run in a
school-record time of 4:07.21.
Junior Dominique Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Vincent) contributed
numerous points for the team, placing first in the triple jump
(13.82m) and long jump (7.04m). He also finished second in the
100-meter dash (11.16) and fourth in the 200 (22.79). His long jump
mark was not only good for a school record, but also qualified him
provisionally for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship.
Junior Ryan Timm (New Ulm, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran)
placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.31 and fifth
in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.84. Freshman Tate Plath
(Eagan, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) finished fourth in the 800-meter
run (2:05.67) and freshman Dan Tilly (West Bend, Wis./West) placed
fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.50).
WLC finished third out of eight in the 1,600-meter relay with a
time of 3:32.45.
In the throwing events, sophomore Andrew Loescher (Jackson,
Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) closed out a stellar season in the
javelin with a second-place toss of 53.71 meters.
The Warriors finished fourth with 105 points in the final team
rankings. Concordia Wisconsin was named conference champion after
it tallied 265 points.
Wisconsin Lutheran will compete in the North Central College
Last Chance Invitational on May 7-8 in Naperville, Ill.
