MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
baseball team fell to the Northern Athletics Conference-leading
Concordia University Chicago Cougars 12-1 on Saturday in seven
innings in the second game of a doubleheader at Neumann Family
Field.
The Cougars got out to a fast start, scoring seven runs on eight
hits in the first two innings off of junior starting pitcher John
Lynch (Rosendale, Wis./Laconia). Quickly down 7-0, the Warriors
brought across their only run of the game when Ryan Pollesch
(Markesan, Wis./Markesan) scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of
the third inning.
After scoring another run in the sixth inning, Concordia Chicago
added four more runs in the top of the seventh to go up 12-1. The
Cougars held the Warriors to one hit in the bottom of the seventh
to bring the run-rule into effect and the game came to an end after
seven complete.
Sophomore Justin Barkhurst (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran) went
2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Warriors, who finished with six
hits in the game.
Saturday marked the final home game for seniors Jared Huntemann
(Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago), Cody Schmidt (Union City, Okla./Union
City), Brandon Hutsen (Oconomowoc, Wis./Lake Country Lutheran), AJ
Paczocha (Cudahy, Wis./Union Grove Christian), Eric Burrow (Lake
Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran), Brady Olson (Sister Bay,
Wis./Gibraltar), Josh Lemke (Brillion, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) and
Justin Cromas (Greenfield, Wis./Greenfield),
Kyle Slechta once again paced the Cougars (27-13, 16-4 NAC) at
the plate by going 4-for-5 with two RBIs.
Wisconsin Lutheran (12-26, 5-15 NAC) wraps up its 2009 season on
Sunday when its travels to Aurora, Ill., to take on the Spartans in
a NAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at
Solfisburg Park.
