AURORA, Ill. - WLC's baseball team was shutout
by the Aurora University Spartans 10-0 in eight innings on Sunday
in the first game of a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader
at Solfisburg Park.
Aurora and Wisconsin Lutheran went scoreless for the opening
frame before the Spartans plated a pair of runs in the bottom of
the second on three hits. Senior Josh Lemke (Brillion,
Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran), who made his final start for the forest
green and white on the mound, kept the homestanding Spartans off
the scoreboard for the next two innings.
With the Warriors trailing 2-0 in the fifth, the Spartans scored
a single run for a 3-0 lead. Aurora proceeded to add seven runs to
its total over the next three innings for a 10-0 lead. The game
ended in the bottom of the eighth due to run-rule.
Junior Kyle Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther Preparatory),
sophomore Ethan Geis (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran),
sophomore Matt Lang (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) and senior AJ
Paczocha (Cudahy, Wis./Union Grove Christian) each tallied a hit in
the game for the Warriors. Edlhuber's double in the first inning
extended his hitting streak to 32 games. Lemke went 6.1 innings,
allowing seven earned runs to take the loss.
Tony Wellner finished 5-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored
to lead the Spartans (26-10, 15-6 NAC), who tallied 16 hits in the
game. Dave Warner pitched 5.2 innings to pick up the win for
Aurora.
Wisconsin Lutheran (12-27, 5-16 NAC) faces Aurora in the second
game of its doubleheader on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Solfisburg
Park.
