AURORA, Ill. - The Aurora University Spartans pounded out 25 runs on 24 hits and went on to defeat Wisconsin Lutheran College 25-4 on Sunday in the second game of a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader at Solfisburg Park.

The Spartans hit back-to-back home runs in bottom of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. After a scoreless second from both clubs, Wisconsin Lutheran took a 3-2 lead in the third on a two-run homer by AJ Paczocha (Cudahy, Wis./Union Grove Christian) and an RBI single from Justin Barkhurst (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran).

Aurora quickly responded in the bottom half of the frame to score four runs on a two-RBI double and a two-run home run. Sophomore Ethan Geis (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) led off the fourth inning for the Warriors with a solo home run to cut WLC's deficit to 6-4.

The host Spartans broke open the game in the fourth when they scored 10 runs on nine hits to take a 12-run advantage. Aurora plated five runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to end the game after six and one-half due to run rule.

Paczocha went 2-for-3 to lead WLC at the plate. Six other Warriors tallied one hit to account for the eight hits on the afternoon.

Tony Wellner went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and four runs scored to lead the Spartans (27-10, 16-6 NAC), who hit four home runs in the game.

Wisconsin Lutheran finishes its 2009 season 12-28 overall and 5-17 in the NAC under first-year head coach Dave Reinemann. The 12 wins are the most since 2002 when WLC finished 19-17.
