MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin Lutheran College overcame a 14-point deficit in the second half, but the visiting Benedictine Eagles shot 60.4 percent from the floor to defeat the Warriors 86-77 on Wednesday in a Northern Athletics Conference men's basketball game at the Recreation Complex.

The Eagles, who led for the entire first half, jumped out to an 8-1 lead over the Warriors less than three minutes into action. Wisconsin Lutheran got as close as three points (21-18) with eight minutes left in the half, but BU extended its lead back up to 11 points, 43-32, at halftime.

Ben Ziesemer (New Ulm, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) scored 11 of his team-high 18 points in the opening half as WLC shot 45.5 from the floor. Benedictine, however, countered by firing on 65.4 percent of its shots in the half.

The visitors scored the first three points of the second half to lead by a game-high 14 points very early in the half. The Warriors trailed by 10 points, 61-51, at the 12:48 mark before going on a 19-4 run to grab a 70-66 lead with 5:31 remaining. Unfortunately, BU answered with a 13-2 run of its own to take back the lead, 79-72, with 2:17 left on the clock and was able to hold on for the win. WLC's comeback was guided by a 14-1 margin in points off turnovers in the second half.

Ziesemer finished with 18 points leading three players in double figures. Freshman Tim Demuth (Franksville, Wis./Racine Lutheran) scored a career-high 14 points off the bench, while Sam Siemers (Nicollet, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) added 10.

The Warriors shot 50.0 percent (25-for-50) from the floor for the game and 82.6 percent (19-for-23) from the charity stripe. They were out-rebounded by the Eagles, 32-19.

Cameron Snelling paced four players in double figures for Benedictine (9-5, 3-3 NAC) with 21 points. He shot 8-for-9 from the floor, including 5-for-6 from downtown. BU concluded the game with a stellar 60.4 percent shooting performance.

Wisconsin Lutheran (4-8, 3-2 NAC) has the rest of the week off before it hosts cross-town conference rival MSOE on Tuesday, January 19 at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Complex.
