MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's basketball team got back on the winning track with an
impressive 90-71 Winterfest win on its home court against Northern
Athletics Conference rival Lakeland College.
Every statistical category was nearly identical in the first
half except the rebounding margin. WLC out-rebounded Lakeland 22-12
in the first half, 12-9 on the offensive glass and 10-3 on defense,
to take a six-point lead into halftime, 41-35.
After a halftime show by the Milwaukee Bucks Rim Rockers, the
Warriors continued right where they left off in the first half and
never looked back. The Warriors lit it up in the second half,
shooting 14-for-22, (63.6 percent), including 5-for-7, from beyond
the arch. Free-throw shooting helped pull the Warriors ahead as
they got back on track from the line shooting, 80.0 percent
(16-for-20) in the second half.
For the game, WLC shot 52.6 percent from the field, 45.8 percent
from beyond the arch and 82.6 percent from the free-throw line. The
Warriors out-rebounded the Muskies, 40-26, and with that came 18
second-chance points.
The Warriors were led by seniors Ben Ziesemer (New Ulm,
Min./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) and Sam Siemers (Nicollet,
Min./Minnesota Valley Lutheran), both with 22 points. Siemers added
10 rebounds, while Ziesemer added six. Kyle Madson (Madison,
Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) added 15 points and Jeremy Burmeister
(Phoenix, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) added 12 with seven assists.
Wisconsin Lutheran (7-10, 6-4 NAC) returns to the Recreation
Complex floor Tuesday, February 2, to take on Dominican in a 7 p.m.
tip-off game.
