MILWAUKEE - Wisconsin Lutheran College limited
the Lakeland College Muskies to just 97 total yards of offense,
including -3 on the ground, en route to claiming a 20-9 Northern
Athletics Conference win Saturday afternoon at Raabe Stadium.
The Warriors defense set the tone early as senior Shem Biebert
(Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) recovered a Muskies
fumbled shotgun snap on the second play from scrimmage at LC's five
yard line. Two plays later, junior running back Jesse Muldrow
(Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) found the end zone on a
five-yard run to give the Warriors a 7-0 lead at the 13:19 mark of
the first quarter.
WLC held Lakeland to -21 yards on eight plays through its first
three possessions of the game. Sophomore kicker Philip Chaltis
(Bradenton, Fla./Manatee) followed with back-to-back field goals
(45, 23) to push Wisconsin Lutheran's margin to 13-0 with 5:54 left
in the opening period. Both teams were unable to score points on
their three possessions of the second quarter as the halftime score
stood 13-0.
Still holding a 13-point lead late in the third quarter, the
Warriors attempt at a fake punt rush failed and the Muskies took
over on WLC's 38 yard line. Lakeland found the end zone on the very
next play when quarterback Jake Dworak connected with tight end
Eric Zuelsdorf for a 38-yard scoring strike. However, the extra
point attempt sailed wide left and the Warriors took their 13-6
lead into the final quarter.
Lakeland closed within 13-9 on a 32-yard field goal by Nic
Horstmeier on its first fourth-quarter possession. LC benefited
from a muffed punt by Pedro Hardy (Milwaukee, Wis./South) which led
to the three points.
Hardy redeemed himself on the ensuring kickoff, returning it a
school-record 100 yards for a touchdown to bump the Warriors lead
back to 11 points (20-9) with 12:07 remaining in the game. The
Muskies never threatened from that point on, punting the football
away on their remaining three possessions.
The Warriors defense was solid all afternoon, allowing only 97
yards of total offense. Benefiting from seven quarterback sacks,
WLC limited Lakeland to -3 yards rushing on 26 attempts. LC punted
13 times on its 16 possessions for the game.
Sophomore Jason Kramer (Oconomowoc, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) had
a team-high eight tackles for the Warriors. Senior Kaylan Gaines
(Lake Worth, Fla./American Heritage) recorded three of the team's
seven sacks. Junior cornerback Tom Bodnar (Racine, Wis./Park) was
credited with four of WLC's six pass break-ups.
Offensively, the Warriors rushed for 190 yards on the ground
against the conference's top-ranked rushing defense entering play
Saturday. Senior Larry Hairl (Chicago, Ill./Clemente) racked up a
team-high 74 yards for WLC. Sophomore quarterback Zach Shaw
(Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) completed seven passes on just 18
attempts for 42 yards.

conversions.
Dworak was 7-for-28 passing for 100 yards for Lakeland (2-4, 1-2
NAC). Bruce Romagnoli finished with a game-high 11 tackles.
Wisconsin Lutheran (4-2, 2-1 NAC) hosts Rockford College (0-6,
0-3 NAC) next Saturday, October 23 in its annual Homecoming game.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Raabe Stadium.
