MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's basketball team shot just 30.5 percent from the floor and
suffered a 66-54 loss to the Milwaukee School of Engineering
Raiders on Wednesday night in a Northern Athletics Conference South
Division matchup downtown at the Kern Center.
Senior forward Sam Siemers (Nicollet, Minn./Minnesota Valley
Lutheran) gave the Warriors an early 2-0 lead, but unfortatnely it
was the only lead that the visitors would hold all evening long.
MSOE, which shot 53.8 percent in the first half, stormed out to a
17-6 advantage with 11:59 left. The Raiders led by as much as 12 in
the half before carrying a 42-32 lead into halftime.
Wisconsin Lutheran committed just five turnovers, but shot just
35.5 percent in the half. Rob Linzmeier, who made four
three-pointers, scored all 16 of his points in the opening period
for MSOE.
The Warriors were held without a point for the first 5:03 of the
second half until Darnell Williams (Campbellsport,
Wis./Campbellsport) scored two of his six points as WLC trailed by
10 points, 44-34. Wisconsin Lutheran found itself trailing by just
five points at the 8:31 mark before the Raiders rattled off nine
consecutive to take a game-high 14-point lead, 57-43, with 5:24
remaining. WLC got within seven points at 1:13, but MSOE scored the
final five points of the game to hand the Warriors their second
straight loss.
WLC struggled from the floor in the half, shooting just 25
percent, including 14.3 percent from beyond the arc. Jeremy Off
scored 12 points for the Raiders, who shot 46.7 percent, in the
half.
Siemers was the only Warrior to reach double figures, tallying
13 points on the night. Both Siemers and Williams finished with a
team-best seven rebounds. Three players, Williams, Kaleb Buch
(Manitowoc, Wis./Lutheran) and DJ Cupertino (Wauwatosa, Wis./East),
added six points each.
Although attempting 18 more shots than MSOE, WLC finished with a
30.5 percent (18-for-59) shooting percentage. The Raiders countered
by shooting 51.2 percent (21-for-41). The Warriors were edged in
rebounds, 33-31, but held a 15-6 advantage on the offensive glass.
WLC did shoot a season-high 92.9 percent (13-for-14) from the
charity stripe.
Off finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds to pace three
players in double digits for MSOE (13-9, 8-6 NAC).
Wisconsin Lutheran (8-12, 7-6 NAC) concludes its three-game road
trip Saturday with a crucial NAC South Division game against
Benedictine University (12-10, 6-8 NAC) in Lisle, Ill. The contest
is scheduled to begin at 4:15 p.m.
