LOVES PARK, Ill. - Wisconsin Lutheran College
was defeated by the Rockford College Regents 13-4 in the second
game of a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader on Saturday
afternoon at Road Ranger Stadium.
The Regents jumped out in front of WLC right away in the first
by scoring two runs on an RBI groundout and a sacrifice fly for the
2-0 lead. Following a scoreless second inning, Rockford extended
its lead to 5-0 in the third on a pair of RBI hits and a wild
pitch.
Rockford put a four-spot on the scoreboard in the fourth after
putting together five hits. The Regents added a single run in the
fifth to build a 10-0 lead. The Warriors got on the scoreboard in
the sixth when they scored three runs, aided by three hits and an
error. Junior Justin Barkhurst (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran) and
freshman Tyler Schoen (Marion, Wis./Marion) began the frame with
back-to-back singles. Junior Josh Ferrell followed with a two-run
double and later scored on an RBI groundout off the bat of freshman
Sam Braaten (Appleton, Wis./East).
WLC tallied its final run the following inning when senior Kyle
Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther Preparatory) singled home junior
Ethan Geis (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran). RC plated its
final three runs of the game in the bottom of the seventh off of
three hits.
The Warriors received a hit from seven different players in the
game. Edlhuber, Ferrell and Braaten each tallied an RBI for
Wisconsin Lutheran. Senior Jake Thorsteins (Round Lake Beach,
Ill./Shoreland Lutheran) was handed the loss (0-3) after he pitched
3.2 innings and allowed nine runs.
Kyle Standridge went 4-for-6 with three runs scored and an RBI
for the Regents (10-5-1, 4-1 NAC). Jimmy Polster was 3-for-3 with
three runs scored. Alan Jankowski pitched the first 5.2 innings to
earn the win and move to 1-0 on the season.
Wisconsin Lutheran (4-13, 3-3 NAC) returns home from its
five-game road swing tomorrow when it hosts Benedictine University
in a 1 p.m. NAC doubleheader at Neumann Family Field.
