MILWAUKEE - The Aurora University Spartans
jumped out to a 9-1 lead after three innings and went on to defeat
Wisconsin Lutheran College 17-6 in seven innings on Sunday in game
two of a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader at Neumann
Family Field.
Aurora plated a pair of early runs in the first off of three
hits before Wisconsin Lutheran came back in the bottom of the
inning to score one after Justin Barkhurst (Crete, Ill./Illinois
Lutheran) reached home on a passed ball.
The Spartans added to their slim 2-1 lead by scoring seven runs
over the next two innings. Following two scoreless innings from
both teams, AU scored five runs on three hits in the sixth. WLC
responded with three runs on four hits of its own in the bottom of
the sixth on RBIs from Josh Ferrell (Cocoa, Fla./Temple Christian),
Jake Thorsteins (Round Lake Beach, Ill./Shoreland Lutheran) and Joe
Picone (Lindenhurst, Ill./Shoreland Lutheran).
After AU scored its final three runs the next half inning, Kyle
Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther Preparatory) and Thorsteins drove
in the last two Warriors' runs of the game.
Barkhurst, Edlhuber, Thorsteins and Ryan Pollesch (Markesan,
Wis./Markesan) had two hits each in second game for WLC. Edlhuber
also scored two runs.
Bobby Wilson and Tony Wellner each finished with three hits for
the Spartans (17-9, 9-3 NAC). Wilson had four RBIs, while Wellner
added three.
Wisconsin Lutheran (6-19, 3-9 NAC) travels out of conference
play on Wednesday, April 21 with a doubleheader at UW-Parkside in
Kenosha, Wis. Game one's first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
