MILWAUKEE - Edgewood College found its offense
in game two as it earned a split of a NAC baseball doubleheader
with a 17-9 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran College on Tuesday at
Neumann Family Field.
The Eagles jumped on Warriors senior starter John Lynch
(Rosendale, Wis./Laconia) with five runs in the first inning. They
would add two more in the second to take a 7-0 lead.
Junior Ryan Pollesch (Markesan, Wis./Markesan) ripped a double
down the left field line to score sophomore David Frelich (Maribel,
Wis./Denmark) for the Warriors' first run of the game in the third
inning. WLC crept within a run, 7-6, by rallying for five runs on
six hits in the fifth inning. However, Edgewood scored five runs of
its own in the sixth and eighth innings to expand its lead again
and secure the victory.
Pollesch, Josh Ferrell (Cocoa, Fla./Temple Christian) and Kyle
Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther Preparatory) had two hits apiece
for the Warriors. Seven different players recorded an RBI.
Erik Massey, Steven Binder and Ryan Walker all had three RBIs to
lead the Edgwood (20-12, 11-5 NAC) offense. Walker also added four
hits and three runs scored. Blake Hunt earned the win by pitching
two innings in a relief role. Patrick Clerkin recorded a
three-inning save.
Wisconsin Lutheran (8-21, 4-10 NAC) resumes its suspended
doubleheader with Lakeland College on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at
Wildwood Baseball Park in Sheboygan, Wis. The Warriors will
continue game one of their twinbill with the Muskies in the top of
the sixth trailing by a score of 11-2. Game two will follow shortly
after.
