SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Wisconsin Lutheran College
dropped game one of its suspended Northern Athletics Conference
baseball doubleheader by a score of 12-2 to Lakeland College on
Wednesday afternoon at Wildwood Park.
Junior Ryan Pollesch (Markesan, Wis./Markesan) ripped the first
pitch of the game down the left field line for a home run to give
the Warriors a quick lead. The Muskies scored twice in their half
of the first, but senior Jake Thorsteins (Round Lake Beach,
Ill./Shoreland Lutheran) tied the game back up at 2-2 with a home
run of his own the following inning.
Despite getting nine more hits, the two solo home runs were the
only offense WLC put together as it stranded nine base runners.
Thorsteins, along with fellow senior Kyle Edlhuber (Mukwonago,
Wis./Luther Preparatory), had three hits apiece. Pollesch, with his
home run, was 1-for-1 with three walks.
Thorsteins took the loss (0-6) on the mound, giving up eight
earned runs in 4.0 innings pitched.
Dave Novak led all Lakeland (16-15, 7-8 NAC) hitters with four
hits, two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Andy Chitwood earned
the win (4-1) , allowing two runs in five innings. Ryan Polizzi
threw three scoreless innings in relief to pick up the save.
The Warriors (8-22, 4-11 NAC) take on Lakeland College in the
second game of their conference doubleheader on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Wildwood Park.
