MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
baseball team used four homeruns and twenty-one hits to steamroll
its way to an 18-10 Northern Athletics Conference victory against
Marian University on Saturday in game one of a NAC doubleheader at
Neumann Family Field.
Junior outfielder Ethan Geis (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago
Lutheran) had a career day as he led the Warriors by going 5-for-5
with two home runs, a double, five RBIs and five runs scored. On
Senior Day, a five-run fifth inning was highlighted by a lead-off
home run by senior Shawn Glasel (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley
Lutheran) and a three-run shot by senior Jake Thorsteins (Round
Lake Beach, Ill./Shoreland Lutheran).
After the Warriors took a 15-6 lead, Marian scored three runs in
the eighth to cut the lead to six but Geis' second home run of the
game, a three-run blast to left field in the bottom of the eighth,
sealed the deal for WLC.
Seven Warriors had two or more hits in the game. Thorsteins had
five RBIs and Glasel went 3-for-5 and scored three times. Junior
Ryan Pollesch (Markesan, Wis./Markesan) went 3-for-4 with three
runs knocked in. Senior Kyle Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther
Preparatory) had two hits, two runs, two walks and an RBI.
Junior Matt Lang (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) won (2-5) his
second game of the week as he went 7.0 innings giving up six runs
on twelve hits and striking out six. He finished strong, not
allowing a hit in his last two innings pitched.
Jace Unrein and Tim Holtz each went 3-for-5 for the Marian
Sabres. Ryan Hiller added three RBIs. Ty Engler was credited the
loss (0-4), allowing eight runs in 3.0 innings of work.
Wisconsin Lutheran (9-23, 5-12 NAC) hosts the Sabres in the
second game of its NAC doubleheader on Saturday at 3 p.m. at
Neumann Family Field.
