WEST BEND, Wis. - Concordia University
Wisconsin scored nine times in the third inning to overcame a slim
2-1 deficit and go on to defeat Wisconsin Lutheran College 17-4 on
Sunday in game two of a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader
at Kuss Field.
Junior Josh Ferrell (Cocoa, Fla./Temple Christian) put the
Warriors up 1-0 in the first on an RBI single that plated senior
Kyle Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther Preparatory). Concordia
Wisconsin responded quickly with a hit and a Warriors error to tie
the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning.
WLC jumped back in front 2-1 in the second when freshman Tyler
Schoen (Marion, Wis./Marion) belted a two-out solo home run.
Following scoreless half innings from each club, the Falcons
rattled off eight hits, four of which were doubles, to plate nine
runs in the third inning for a 10-2 lead.
Junior Justin Barkhurst (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran) belted
the Warriors' second home run of the game, a two-out two-run shot
in the fifth, to lift WLC within six runs. CUW took advantage of
three walks and two errors to plate five run in the bottom of the
fifth for an 11-run lead. The Falcons scored their final two runs
of the game in the sixth off of three hits and the contest was
called after 6.5 innings.
Junior Ryan Pollesch (Markesan, Wis./Markesan) led Wisconsin
Lutheran by going 3-for-4 in the game. Schoen added two hits, while
four others contributed with a hit. Edlhuber scored twice and
Barkhurst drove in two runs. Edlhuber suffered the loss (0-1) on
the mound after pitching 6.0 innings and allowing 10 runs, nine
earned.
Austin Sarauer and Matt Schilter each went 3-for-4 for Concordia
Wisconsin (19-13, 13-5 NAC). Cory Stark (4-1) pitched 7.0 strong
innings, scattering nine hits and giving up four runs.
Wisconsin Lutheran (9-26, 5-15 NAC) wraps up its 2010 season
next Saturday, May 8 when it travels west to Watertown, Wis., for a
12 p.m. NAC doubleheader against Maranatha Baptist Bible
College.
