ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
women's soccer team opened Northern Athletics Conference play with
a 4-0 shutout victory over Rockford College Wednesday at Sam
Greeley Field. The Warriors got on the board early, using three
goals in the first half, to defeat the host Regents.
Freshman Niki DiSalvo (Waterford, Wis./Waterford) opened the
scoring for the Warriors in the fifth minute with an unassisted
goal. Midway through the first half after a pair of offside calls
against WLC, freshman Cari Westover (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) found
the back of the net in the 24th minute on an unassisted score.
Freshman Kate Wilson (Machesney Park, Ill./Rockford Lutheran)
followed with a score off of her own rebound at 29:38 to cap off a
solid first half for the Warriors. Wisconsin Lutheran outshot
Rockford in the opening period, 16-2.
Wisconsin Lutheran wasted no time adding to its lead in the
second half. DiSalvo once again reached the scoring column at 51:46
on another unassisted goal. DiSalvo led the WLC with 10 shots,
eight of which were on goal. The Warriors finished with 27 shots in
the game, while holding Rockford to just four attempts. Senior
Katie Sloan (Omaha, Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) played all 90 minutes
for the shutout in goal. Sloan had two saves, both coming in the
first half.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-4, 1-0 NAC) faces cross-town conference
foe MSOE (2-3, 1-0 NAC) at 11 a.m. Saturday at Uihlein Soccer
Park.
