WATERTOWN, Wis. - Karis Rogers scored three of
Maranatha Baptist Bible College's five first-half goals while
adding two assists to lead the host Crusaders over the Wisconsin
Lutheran Warriors in Saturday afternoon's Northern Athletics
Conference game at Maranatha Field.
The Crusaders (3-2, 2-2 NAC) were first to get on the scoreboard
in the fifth minute when Hilary Lockhart sent a through ball to
Rogers splitting the Warriors defense. Three minutes later, Rogers
found teammate Katie Foy for 2-0 advantage over WLC. MBBC added
three more scores through the rest of the half to build a 5-0 lead
at intermission.
The Warriors, who kept the hosts out of the net for the final 25
minutes of the first half, finished the first half with seven shots
compared to 11 for Maranatha.
Eleven minutes into the second half, freshman Mel Lemke
(Brookfield, Wis./Central) found the back of the net on a pass from
sophomore Allison Mielke (Green Bay, Wis./N.E.W. Lutheran) to put
Wisconsin Lutheran on the board. At 79:46, sophomore Kristen
Lavallee (Waterford, Wis./Waterford) added another goal for WLC to
bring its deficit within three goals. Unfortunately, time was not
on the side of the Warriors as the final 10 minutes went scoreless
for both clubs.
The Warriors out-shot the Crusaders 14-11 in the second half and
were edged 22-21 for the game. Freshman Maggie Smith (Elkhorn,
Wis./Elkhorn) had a team-high six shots for WLC. Senior goalkeeper
Katie Sloan (Omaha, Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) made four saves in the
first half, while freshman Megan Bruce (Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) played the second half, making a pair of stops.
