Warriors fall at home to regionally-ranked Stars

MILWAUKEE - Dominican University scored five second-half goals to break open a slim 1-0 halftime lead and defeat Wisconsin Lutheran College 6-0 Wednesday night in a Northern Athletics Conference matchup at Warrior Field.

Dominican (8-2, 6-0 NAC), ranked ninth in the Central region in the latest NSCAA poll, scored its only goal of the first half just 1:20 after the opening whistle blew. The Warriors held the Stars off the scoreboard for the final 43-plus minutes of the period to trail by just one score at intermission. WLC finished with four first-half shots, compared to 16 for DU.

The Stars came out strong in the second half, scoring their second goal in the 51st minute and concluding with their sixth and final tally in the 89th minute.

Freshman Maggie Smith (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) recorded four shots, including two on goal for the Warriors. Senior goalkeeper Katie Sloan (Omaha, Neb./Nebraska Lutheran) collected 13 saves.

Ashley Meyer totaled a match-high 14 shots as six different players scored for DU. Megan Schulz made four stops in the net while facing seven shots.

Wisconsin Lutheran (4-8, 1-4 NAC) continues its four-match homestand Saturday afternoon when it hosts Marian University (5-4, 4-2 NAC) at 1 p.m. in a NAC contest at Warrior Field.
