RIPON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
football team forced four turnovers, but only turned one into
points, as it dropped its 2010 season opener to first-time
non-conference opponent Ripon College by a final score of 20-10 on
Saturday afternoon at Ingalls Field.
Wisconsin Lutheran and Ripon had a tough going establishing
offense its first couple possessions of the game. The Warriors
punted twice, while the Red Hawks did the same once before scoring
the game's first points midway through the first quarter. A 38-yard
field goal by Jacob Gahart gave the hosts a 3-0 lead which stood
through the end of the first quarter.
Following an interception in the end zone by sophomore Jordan
Rabe (Oshkosh, Wis./West) with 4:46 left in the second quarter, the
Warriors gave the football right back to the Red Hawks on a fumble
by junior Jesse Muldrow (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran). Ripon
proceeded to march 26 yards on four plays as quarterback Jake
Marshall run it in from nine yards out to give the Red Hawks a 10-0
lead. The hosts tacked on a field goal with eight seconds left
before halftime for a 13-0 advantage.

first play of the second half when senior Josh McCormick (Fond du
Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) recovered a Marshall fumble at
Ripon's 41 yard-line. Four plays later, sophomore quarterback Zach
Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) connected with sophomore Josh
Stodola (Denmark, Wis./Denmark) for a 17-yard scoring strike. The
point after made it 13-7 in favor of Ripon with 13:23
remaining.
The Red Hawks turned their following possession of 11 plays, 75
yards into a Josh Pasek three-yard touchdown run to once again take
the momentum away from WLC. RC led 20-7 after three quarters.
WLC trimmed its deficit in half its first possession of the
final quarter when sophomore Philip Chaltis (Bradenton,
Fla./Manatee) made good on a 27-yard field goal for a 20-10
deficit. The Warriors benefited from a blocked field goal that was
returned by sophomore Tyler Schoen (Marion, Wis./Marion) on the
previous Ripon drive.
Wisconsin Lutheran had two more possessions but couldn't move
the football deep into Red Hawks territory as time was not on its
side. A 14-play, 5:29 drive that ended with an Alex Allister (Lake
Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) interception sealed the deal for the
hosts.
Muldrow rushed for 130 yards on 18 carries, an average of 7.2
yards per carry, to lead the Warriors offense. Stodola caught three
passes for 38 yards, while Shaw went 9-of-27 for 65 yards through
the air. WLC was out-gained 367-230 in total offense. Ripon held
the football for 35:28, while WLC kept it for just 24:32.

Lutheran) recorded a career-high 15 tackles. Four other Warriors
had nine tackles apiece.

played each other eight previous times when they were conference
