MADISON, Wis. - Edgewood College's Ben
Wisniewski poured in a game-high 16 points to lead five players in
double figures as the Eagles defeated Wisconsin Lutheran College
83-60 on Wednesday in Northern Athletics Conference men's
basketball action at the Todd Wehr Edgedome.
The host Eagles scored the first points of the game and never
looked back. Wisniewski scored 10 of his 16 points in the first
half as EC steadily built its lead. After trailing by 11 points
midway through the first half, the Warriors twice brought their
deficit down to six points, but couldn't get any closer. Edgewood,
which shot 57.1 percent in the first half, led by 13 points, 40-27,
at halftime. WLC shot 34.6 percent from the floor in the half.
Edgewood continued to build upon its lead in the second half,
picking up right where it left off from the first half. The Eagles
saw their lead grow to a game-high 27 points midway through the
second half. Wisconsin Lutheran shot 37.5 percent in the second
half, while the Eagles continued to stay hot by shooting 54.8
percent.
Junior forward Alex Merbach (Kaukauna, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran)
led the Warriors with 15 points, while junior Eric Reed (Fond du
Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) and freshman Cody Jackson (Fond du
Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran) scored 14 and 12, respectively.
WLC was out-rebounded by the Eagles, 43-25, and out-scored 40-21
on points in the paint. The Warriors shot 36.2 percent (21-for-58)
for the game and went 10-for-11 from the free throw line.
Edgewood (9-5, 5-1 NAC) had five players reach double figures
for the game, led by Wisniewski's 16. Cashton Craig and Derek
Nkemnji each scored 12 points, while Jeff Barczak and Michael
Janusek scored 13 and 10, respectively off the bench. For the game,
The Eagles shot 55.9 percent (33-for-59) from the field.
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-11, 1-4 NAC) returns to action on Tuesday,
January 18 at Marian University (2-12, 0-6 NAC) in Fond du Lac,
Wis. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. at the Sadoff
Gymnasium.
