FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Sophomore Tim Demuth
(Franksville, Wis./Racine Lutheran) scored a career-high 24 points
while leading Wisconsin Lutheran College to its third win of the
season after defeating Marian University 76-61 on Tuesday night at
the Sadoff Gymnasium.
The first half saw back-and-forth action until the Warriors made
their run midway through the half. With eight minutes to play, WLC
went on a 24-7 run to end the half in front by 18 points, 45-27.
Demuth led all scorers with 18 points in the first half, going
4-for-5 from beyond the arc. The Warriors also shot 48.4 percent as
a team from the field, compared to 35.5 percent for the Sabres.
The Warriors continued to hold a double-digit lead until midway
through the second half. MU continued to chip away, narrowing its
deficit to as little as seven points, 61-54, with 7:55 remaining.
WLC finished the game on a 7-1 run to seal the 76-61 victory.
Junior Alex Merbach (Kaukauna, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) led the
scoring for the Warriors in the second half with seven points. The
Warriors cooled down in the second half, shooting 38.7 percent
while going 0-for-11 from three-point range. Marian shot 40 percent
in the second half and 37.7 percent (23-for-61) for the game.
Demuth led all scorers in the game with 24 points. Merbach and
Jeremy Murphy (Chicago, Ill./Clemente) also had strong
contributions scoring 15 and 14, respectively. Merbach and Darnell
Williams (Campbellsport, Wis./Campbellsport) tied a team high with
eight rebounds apiece. Despite being out-rebounded 45-39, the
Warriors committed just 10 turnovers compared to 18 for the Sabres.
WLC concluded the contest shooting 43.5 percent (27-for-62).
MU (2-14, 0-8 NAC) was led by a trio of players offensively.
Donnahugh Brown led the Sabres with 14 points, while Jeff Harris
and Sam Forkert, who came off the bench, each scored 12.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-11, 2-4 NAC) returns home for two more
games this week, beginning on Thursday night when it hosts Lakeland
College (8-7, 3-4 NAC) in a 7 p.m. tip off at the Recreation
Complex.
